Woe to those who plan iniquity, to those who plot evil on their beds! At morning’s light they carry it out because it is in their power to do it.

Then Haman said to King Xerxes, “There is a certain people dispersed among the peoples in all the provinces of your kingdom who keep themselves separate. Their customs are different from those of all other people, and they do not obey the king’s laws; it is not in the king’s best interest to tolerate them.

His wife Zeresh and all his friends said to him, “Have a pole set up, reaching to a height of fifty cubits, and ask the king in the morning to have Mordecai impaled on it. Then go with the king to the banquet and enjoy yourself.” This suggestion delighted Haman, and he had the pole set up.

But when the plot came to the king’s attention, he issued written orders that the evil scheme Haman had devised against the Jews should come back onto his own head, and that he and his sons should be impaled on poles.

They conceive trouble and give birth to evil; their womb fashions deceit.”

When daylight is gone, the murderer rises up, kills the poor and needy, and in the night steals forth like a thief.

Even on their beds they plot evil; they commit themselves to a sinful course and do not reject what is wrong.

Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.

Even from birth the wicked go astray; from the womb they are wayward, spreading lies.

Good people obtain favor from the Lord, but he condemns those who devise wicked schemes.

Do not those who plot evil go astray? But those who plan what is good find love and faithfulness.

Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.

For they cannot rest until they do evil; they are robbed of sleep till they make someone stumble.

The ruthless will vanish, the mockers will disappear, and all who have an eye for evil will be cut down—

The Lord enters into judgment against the elders and leaders of his people: “It is you who have ruined my vineyard; the plunder from the poor is in your houses.

Scoundrels use wicked methods, they make up evil schemes to destroy the poor with lies, even when the plea of the needy is just.

Woe to you who add house to house and join field to field till no space is left and you live alone in the land.

For your hands are stained with blood, your fingers with guilt. Your lips have spoken falsely, and your tongue mutters wicked things.

They said, “Come, let’s make plans against Jeremiah; for the teaching of the law by the priest will not cease, nor will counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophets. So come, let’s attack him with our tongues and pay no attention to anything he says.”

The Lord said to me, “Son of man, these are the men who are plotting evil and giving wicked advice in this city.

You rely on your sword, you do detestable things, and each of you defiles his neighbor’s wife. Should you then possess the land?’

“ ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: On that day thoughts will come into your mind and you will devise an evil scheme.

The prince must not take any of the inheritance of the people, driving them off their property. He is to give his sons their inheritance out of his own property, so that not one of my people will be separated from their property.’ ”

Your rich people are violent; your inhabitants are liars and their tongues speak deceitfully.

From you, Nineveh, has one come forth who plots evil against the Lord and devises wicked plans.

Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the foreigner or the poor. Do not plot evil against each other.’

Very early in the morning, the chief priests, with the elders, the teachers of the law and the whole Sanhedrin, made their plans. So they bound Jesus, led him away and handed him over to Pilate.

The teachers of the law and the chief priests looked for a way to arrest him immediately, because they knew he had spoken this parable against them. But they were afraid of the people.

Jesus answered, “You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin.”

The next morning some Jews formed a conspiracy and bound themselves with an oath not to eat or drink until they had killed Paul.

Now then, you and the Sanhedrin petition the commander to bring him before you on the pretext of wanting more accurate information about his case. We are ready to kill him before he gets here.”

slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents;

Your sons and daughters will be given to another nation, and you will wear out your eyes watching for them day after day, powerless to lift a hand.
