Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

“Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.”

After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter and said, “Surely you are one of them; your accent gives you away.”

Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: “Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly.

All the people answered, “His blood is on us and on our children!”

“Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “today—yes, tonight—before the rooster crows twice you yourself will disown me three times.”

But he denied it. “I don’t know or understand what you’re talking about,” he said, and went out into the entryway.

Peter replied, “Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed.

Again Peter denied it, and at that moment a rooster began to crow.

For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my people, those of my own race,

If anyone does not love the Lord, let that person be cursed! Come, Lord!

Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent.

said to his mother, “The eleven hundred shekels of silver that were taken from you and about which I heard you utter a curse—I have that silver with me; I took it.” Then his mother said, “The Lord bless you, my son!”

We can’t give them our daughters as wives, since we Israelites have taken this oath: ‘Cursed be anyone who gives a wife to a Benjamite.’
