A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home.

Leaving Nazareth, he went and lived in Capernaum, which was by the lake in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali—

Jesus stepped into a boat, crossed over and came to his own town.

Instead he went out and began to talk freely, spreading the news. As a result, Jesus could no longer enter a town openly but stayed outside in lonely places. Yet the people still came to him from everywhere.

They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them.

Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered, so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat.

After he had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him about this parable.

Jesus left that place and went to the vicinity of Tyre. He entered a house and did not want anyone to know it; yet he could not keep his presence secret.

After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”

Jesus said to them, “Surely you will quote this proverb to me: ‘Physician, heal yourself!’ And you will tell me, ‘Do here in your hometown what we have heard that you did in Capernaum.’ ”

Some men came carrying a paralyzed man on a mat and tried to take him into the house to lay him before Jesus.

When this man heard that Jesus had arrived in Galilee from Judea, he went to him and begged him to come and heal his son, who was close to death.

When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken.
