My friends and companions avoid me because of my wounds; my neighbors stay far away.

You have taken from me friend and neighbor— darkness is my closest friend.

“I have trodden the winepress alone; from the nations no one was with me. I trampled them in my anger and trod them down in my wrath; their blood spattered my garments, and I stained all my clothing.

“You will all fall away,” Jesus told them, “for it is written: “ ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’

Every day I was with you, teaching in the temple courts, and you did not arrest me. But the Scriptures must be fulfilled.”

A young man, wearing nothing but a linen garment, was following Jesus. When they seized him,

“A time is coming and in fact has come when you will be scattered, each to your own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me.

Jesus answered, “I told you that I am he. If you are looking for me, then let these men go.”

At my first defense, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them.
