When King Jeroboam heard what the man of God cried out against the altar at Bethel, he stretched out his hand from the altar and said, “Seize him!” But the hand he stretched out toward the man shriveled up, so that he could not pull it back.

“Woe to the worthless shepherd, who deserts the flock! May the sword strike his arm and his right eye! May his arm be completely withered, his right eye totally blinded!”

Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.

On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues,

Jesus asked the Pharisees and experts in the law, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?”

He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read,

Then he went down to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and on the Sabbath he taught the people.

One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and his disciples began to pick some heads of grain, rub them in their hands and eat the kernels.

Then Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”

Here a great number of disabled people used to lie—the blind, the lame, the paralyzed.

Some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath.” But others asked, “How can a sinner perform such signs?” So they were divided.
