“Have pity on me, my friends, have pity, for the hand of God has struck me.

My days are like the evening shadow; I wither away like grass.

Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up.

Your wrath lies heavily on me; you have overwhelmed me with all your waves.

Since my people are crushed, I am crushed; I mourn, and horror grips me.
