He spoke these words while teaching in the temple courts near the place where the offerings were put. Yet no one seized him, because his hour had not yet come.

You go to the festival. I am not going up to this festival, because my time has not yet fully come.”

Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts.

Some wanted to seize him, but no one laid a hand on him.

Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others.

The chief priests picked up the coins and said, “It is against the law to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money.”

Again they tried to seize him, but he escaped their grasp.

At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds.

The teachers of the law and the chief priests looked for a way to arrest him immediately, because they knew he had spoken this parable against them. But they were afraid of the people.

But the four principal gatekeepers, who were Levites, were entrusted with the responsibility for the rooms and treasuries in the house of God.

In that hour Jesus said to the crowd, “Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple courts teaching, and you did not arrest me.

As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury.

“Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.”

Not until halfway through the festival did Jesus go up to the temple courts and begin to teach.

At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them.
