When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman, here is your son,”

Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved was following them. (This was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and had said, “Lord, who is going to betray you?”)

Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water.

So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!”

Then the Jews said, “See how he loved him!”

Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.

So the sisters sent word to Jesus, “Lord, the one you love is sick.”

but the poor man had nothing except one little ewe lamb he had bought. He raised it, and it grew up with him and his children. It shared his food, drank from his cup and even slept in his arms. It was like a daughter to him.

This is the disciple who testifies to these things and who wrote them down. We know that his testimony is true.

Leaning back against Jesus, he asked him, “Lord, who is it?”

No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.

“The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried.

Simon Peter motioned to this disciple and said, “Ask him which one he means.”
