New International Version

Therefore Jesus no longer moved about publicly among the people of Judea. Instead he withdrew to a region near the wilderness, to a village called Ephraim, where he stayed with his disciples.

Two years later, when Absalom’s sheepshearers were at Baal Hazor near the border of Ephraim, he invited all the king’s sons to come there.

Abijah pursued Jeroboam and took from him the towns of Bethel, Jeshanah and Ephron, with their surrounding villages.

Then Jesus went back across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing in the early days. There he stayed,

“I have spoken openly to the world,” Jesus replied. “I always taught in synagogues or at the temple, where all the Jews come together. I said nothing in secret.

After this, Jesus went around in Galilee. He did not want to go about in Judea because the Jewish leaders there were looking for a way to kill him.

However, after his brothers had left for the festival, he went also, not publicly, but in secret.

But no one would say anything publicly about him for fear of the leaders.

No one who wants to become a public figure acts in secret. Since you are doing these things, show yourself to the world.”
