If only you would be altogether silent! For you, that would be wisdom.

The upright are appalled at this; the innocent are aroused against the ungodly.

When they saw him from a distance, they could hardly recognize him; they began to weep aloud, and they tore their robes and sprinkled dust on their heads.

the chief men refrained from speaking and covered their mouths with their hands;

“I am unworthy—how can I reply to you? I put my hand over my mouth.

I was silent; I would not open my mouth, for you are the one who has done this.

“If you play the fool and exalt yourself, or if you plan evil, clap your hand over your mouth!

so he will sprinkle many nations, and kings will shut their mouths because of him. For what they were not told, they will see, and what they have not heard, they will understand.

Therefore the prudent keep quiet in such times, for the times are evil.

Nations will see and be ashamed, deprived of all their power. They will put their hands over their mouths and their ears will become deaf.

Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!

They answered him, “Be quiet! Don’t say a word. Come with us, and be our father and priest. Isn’t it better that you serve a tribe and clan in Israel as priest rather than just one man’s household?”
