This is what the Lord Almighty says: “Cut down the trees and build siege ramps against Jerusalem. This city must be punished; it is filled with oppression.

“Therefore this is what the Lord says concerning the king of Assyria: “He will not enter this city or shoot an arrow here. He will not come before it with shield or build a siege ramp against it.

Whenever I speak, I cry out proclaiming violence and destruction. So the word of the Lord has brought me insult and reproach all day long.

“But your eyes and your heart are set only on dishonest gain, on shedding innocent blood and on oppression and extortion.”

“See how the siege ramps are built up to take the city. Because of the sword, famine and plague, the city will be given into the hands of the Babylonians who are attacking it. What you said has happened, as you now see.

From the day it was built until now, this city has so aroused my anger and wrath that I must remove it from my sight.

For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says about the houses in this city and the royal palaces of Judah that have been torn down to be used against the siege ramps and the sword

In the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon marched against Jerusalem with his whole army and laid siege to it.

Should I not punish them for this?” declares the Lord. “Should I not avenge myself on such a nation as this?

Then lay siege to it: Erect siege works against it, build a ramp up to it, set up camps against it and put battering rams around it.

“This is what the Sovereign Lord says: This is Jerusalem, which I have set in the center of the nations, with countries all around her.

Then the king of the North will come and build up siege ramps and will capture a fortified city. The forces of the South will be powerless to resist; even their best troops will not have the strength to stand.

Woe to the city of oppressors, rebellious and defiled!

The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side.
