Cries of anguish arise from Horonaim, cries of great havoc and destruction.

Dibon goes up to its temple, to its high places to weep; Moab wails over Nebo and Medeba. Every head is shaved and every beard cut off.

My heart cries out over Moab; her fugitives flee as far as Zoar, as far as Eglath Shelishiyah. They go up the hill to Luhith, weeping as they go; on the road to Horonaim they lament their destruction.

Their outcry echoes along the border of Moab; their wailing reaches as far as Eglaim, their lamentation as far as Beer Elim.

Therefore I said, “Turn away from me; let me weep bitterly. Do not try to console me over the destruction of my people.”

May that man be like the towns the Lord overthrew without pity. May he hear wailing in the morning, a battle cry at noon.

This is what the Lord says: “See how the waters are rising in the north; they will become an overflowing torrent. They will overflow the land and everything in it, the towns and those who live in them. The people will cry out; all who dwell in the land will wail

“The sound of their cry rises from Heshbon to Elealeh and Jahaz, from Zoar as far as Horonaim and Eglath Shelishiyah, for even the waters of Nimrim are dried up.

Moab will be broken; her little ones will cry out.

They go up the hill to Luhith, weeping bitterly as they go; on the road down to Horonaim anguished cries over the destruction are heard.

“The sound of a cry comes from Babylon, the sound of great destruction from the land of the Babylonians.
