“Now this is what the Lord God Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Why bring such great disaster on yourselves by cutting off from Judah the men and women, the children and infants, and so leave yourselves without a remnant?

Those who disregard discipline despise themselves, but the one who heeds correction gains understanding.

The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare them; the cords of their sins hold them fast.

But those who fail to find me harm themselves; all who hate me love death.”

Do not follow other gods to serve and worship them; do not arouse my anger with what your hands have made. Then I will not harm you.”

that you made a fatal mistake when you sent me to the Lord your God and said, ‘Pray to the Lord our God for us; tell us everything he says and we will do it.’

None of the remnant of Judah who have gone to live in Egypt will escape or survive to return to the land of Judah, to which they long to return and live; none will return except a few fugitives.”

Why arouse my anger with what your hands have made, burning incense to other gods in Egypt, where you have come to live? You will destroy yourselves and make yourselves a curse and an object of reproach among all the nations on earth.

with you I shatter man and woman, with you I shatter old man and youth, with you I shatter young man and young woman,

But am I the one they are provoking? declares the Lord. Are they not rather harming themselves, to their own shame?

Death has climbed in through our windows and has entered our fortresses; it has removed the children from the streets and the young men from the public squares.

My eyes fail from weeping, I am in torment within; my heart is poured out on the ground because my people are destroyed, because children and infants faint in the streets of the city.

“As you summon to a feast day, so you summoned against me terrors on every side. In the day of the Lord’s anger no one escaped or survived; those I cared for and reared my enemy has destroyed.”

Say to them, ‘As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die, people of Israel?’

Slaughter the old men, the young men and women, the mothers and children, but do not touch anyone who has the mark. Begin at my sanctuary.” So they began with the old men who were in front of the temple.

You have plotted the ruin of many peoples, shaming your own house and forfeiting your life.

the censers of the men who sinned at the cost of their lives. Hammer the censers into sheets to overlay the altar, for they were presented before the Lord and have become holy. Let them be a sign to the Israelites.”

In the street the sword will make them childless; in their homes terror will reign. The young men and young women will perish, the infants and those with gray hair.

They devoted the city to the Lord and destroyed with the sword every living thing in it—men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep and donkeys.

“This is what you are to do,” they said. “Kill every male and every woman who is not a virgin.”

Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.’ ”

He also put to the sword Nob, the town of the priests, with its men and women, its children and infants, and its cattle, donkeys and sheep.
