Jeremiah 38:16

New International Version

But King Zedekiah swore this oath secretly to Jeremiah: “As surely as the Lord lives, who has given us breath, I will neither kill you nor hand you over to those who want to kill you.”

Then King Zedekiah sent for him and had him brought to the palace, where he asked him privately, “Is there any word from the Lord?” “Yes,” Jeremiah replied, “you will be delivered into the hands of the king of Babylon.”

He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.”

A prophecy: The word of the Lord concerning Israel. The Lord, who stretches out the heavens, who lays the foundation of the earth, and who forms the human spirit within a person, declares:

I will not accuse them forever, nor will I always be angry, for then they would faint away because of me— the very people I have created.

I will deliver into the hands of their enemies who want to kill them. Their dead bodies will become food for the birds and the wild animals.

“May the Lord, the God who gives breath to all living things, appoint someone over this community

But Moses and Aaron fell facedown and cried out, “O God, the God who gives breath to all living things, will you be angry with the entire assembly when only one man sins?”

Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits and live!

This is what God the Lord says— the Creator of the heavens, who stretches them out, who spreads out the earth with all that springs from it, who gives breath to its people, and life to those who walk on it:

and the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else.

‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’
