The words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, one of the priests at Anathoth in the territory of Benjamin.

Therefore this is what the Lord says about the people of Anathoth who are threatening to kill you, saying, “Do not prophesy in the name of the Lord or you will die by our hands”—

Jeremiah said, “The word of the Lord came to me:

“Then, just as the Lord had said, my cousin Hanamel came to me in the courtyard of the guard and said, ‘Buy my field at Anathoth in the territory of Benjamin. Since it is your right to redeem it and possess it, buy it for yourself.’ “I knew that this was the word of the Lord;

“ ‘The land must not be sold permanently, because the land is mine and you reside in my land as foreigners and strangers.

Throughout the land that you hold as a possession, you must provide for the redemption of the land.

“ ‘If one of your fellow Israelites becomes poor and sells some of their property, their nearest relative is to come and redeem what they have sold.

But the pastureland belonging to their towns must not be sold; it is their permanent possession.

An uncle or a cousin or any blood relative in their clan may redeem them. Or if they prosper, they may redeem themselves.

“Command the Israelites to give the Levites towns to live in from the inheritance the Israelites will possess. And give them pasturelands around the towns.
