What more could have been done for my vineyard than I have done for it? When I looked for good grapes, why did it yield only bad?

You will bring them in and plant them on the mountain of your inheritance— the place, Lord, you made for your dwelling, the sanctuary, Lord, your hands established.

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.

With your hand you drove out the nations and planted our ancestors; you crushed the peoples and made our ancestors flourish.

You transplanted a vine from Egypt; you drove out the nations and planted it.

Because he loved your ancestors and chose their descendants after them, he brought you out of Egypt by his Presence and his great strength,

He went on to tell the people this parable: “A man planted a vineyard, rented it to some farmers and went away for a long time.

Jesus then began to speak to them in parables: “A man planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a pit for the winepress and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and moved to another place.

Their vine comes from the vine of Sodom and from the fields of Gomorrah. Their grapes are filled with poison, and their clusters with bitterness.

“Listen to another parable: There was a landowner who planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a winepress in it and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and moved to another place.

and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.

Then all your people will be righteous and they will possess the land forever. They are the shoot I have planted, the work of my hands, for the display of my splendor.

“But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, you descendants of Abraham my friend,

See how the faithful city has become a prostitute! She once was full of justice; righteousness used to dwell in her— but now murderers!

you his servants, the descendants of Abraham, his chosen ones, the children of Jacob.

Israel served the Lord throughout the lifetime of Joshua and of the elders who outlived him and who had experienced everything the Lord had done for Israel.

How the gold has lost its luster, the fine gold become dull! The sacred gems are scattered at every street corner.

Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.”

For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just, so that the Lord will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him.”

In that day— “Sing about a fruitful vineyard:

The Lord Almighty, who planted you, has decreed disaster for you, because the people of both Israel and Judah have done evil and aroused my anger by burning incense to Baal.

You cleared the ground for it, and it took root and filled the land.

“Go through her vineyards and ravage them, but do not destroy them completely. Strip off her branches, for these people do not belong to the Lord.

The Lord called you a thriving olive tree with fruit beautiful in form. But with the roar of a mighty storm he will set it on fire, and its branches will be broken.

“Son of man, how is the wood of a vine different from that of a branch from any of the trees in the forest?
