This is what the Lord said to me: “Go and buy a linen belt and put it around your waist, but do not let it touch water.”

‘This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Take these documents, both the sealed and unsealed copies of the deed of purchase, and put them in a clay jar so they will last a long time.

How the precious children of Zion, once worth their weight in gold, are now considered as pots of clay, the work of a potter’s hands!

“Now, son of man, take a block of clay, put it in front of you and draw the city of Jerusalem on it.

“Now, son of man, take a sharp sword and use it as a barber’s razor to shave your head and your beard. Then take a set of scales and divide up the hair.

Slaughter the old men, the young men and women, the mothers and children, but do not touch anyone who has the mark. Begin at my sanctuary.” So they began with the old men who were in front of the temple.

The Lord said to Moses: “Bring me seventy of Israel’s elders who are known to you as leaders and officials among the people. Have them come to the tent of meeting, that they may stand there with you.

Early in the morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people made their plans how to have Jesus executed.

Coming over to us, he took Paul’s belt, tied his own hands and feet with it and said, “The Holy Spirit says, ‘In this way the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem will bind the owner of this belt and will hand him over to the Gentiles.’ ”

But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.
