Therefore this is what the Lord says: “Inquire among the nations: Who has ever heard anything like this? A most horrible thing has been done by Virgin Israel.

“A horrible and shocking thing has happened in the land:

I have seen a horrible thing in Israel: There Ephraim is given to prostitution, Israel is defiled.

And among the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen something horrible: They commit adultery and live a lie. They strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that not one of them turns from their wickedness. They are all like Sodom to me; the people of Jerusalem are like Gomorrah.”

Who has ever heard of such things? Who has ever seen things like this? Can a country be born in a day or a nation be brought forth in a moment? Yet no sooner is Zion in labor than she gives birth to her children.

“Fallen is Virgin Israel, never to rise again, deserted in her own land, with no one to lift her up.”
