You who are the hope of Israel, its Savior in times of distress, why are you like a stranger in the land, like a traveler who stays only a night?

Why, Lord, do you stand far off? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life. You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes; with your right hand you save me.

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,

and call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.”

For you have been my hope, Sovereign Lord, my confidence since my youth.

The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.

He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.

Lord, be gracious to us; we long for you. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of distress.

For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I give Egypt for your ransom, Cush and Seba in your stead.

Truly you are a God who has been hiding himself, the God and Savior of Israel.

Declare what is to be, present it— let them take counsel together. Who foretold this long ago, who declared it from the distant past? Was it not I, the Lord? And there is no God apart from me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none but me.

He said, “Surely they are my people, children who will be true to me”; and so he became their Savior.

Lord, my strength and my fortress, my refuge in time of distress, to you the nations will come from the ends of the earth and say, “Our ancestors possessed nothing but false gods, worthless idols that did them no good.

Lord, you are the hope of Israel; all who forsake you will be put to shame. Those who turn away from you will be written in the dust because they have forsaken the Lord, the spring of living water.

How awful that day will be! No other will be like it. It will be a time of trouble for Jacob, but he will be saved out of it.

Whoever found them devoured them; their enemies said, ‘We are not guilty, for they sinned against the Lord, their verdant pasture, the Lord, the hope of their ancestors.’

The Lord will roar from Zion and thunder from Jerusalem; the earth and the heavens will tremble. But the Lord will be a refuge for his people, a stronghold for the people of Israel.

Return to your fortress, you prisoners of hope; even now I announce that I will restore twice as much to you.

For this reason I have asked to see you and talk with you. It is because of the hope of Israel that I am bound with this chain.”
