“Ask the Lord your God for a sign, whether in the deepest depths or in the highest heights.”

That same day the man of God gave a sign: “This is the sign the Lord has declared: The altar will be split apart and the ashes on it will be poured out.”

“This will be the sign for you, Hezekiah: “This year you will eat what grows by itself, and the second year what springs from that. But in the third year sow and reap, plant vineyards and eat their fruit.

“When Pharaoh says to you, ‘Perform a miracle,’ then say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh,’ and it will become a snake.”

“This will be the sign for you, Hezekiah: “This year you will eat what grows by itself, and the second year what springs from that. But in the third year sow and reap, plant vineyards and eat their fruit.

Hezekiah had asked, “What will be the sign that I will go up to the temple of the Lord?”

Instead of the thornbush will grow the juniper, and instead of briers the myrtle will grow. This will be for the Lord’s renown, for an everlasting sign, that will endure forever.”

Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz,

But Ahaz said, “I will not ask; I will not put the Lord to the test.”

This is what the Lord says: “Go and buy a clay jar from a potter. Take along some of the elders of the people and of the priests

“Then break the jar while those who go with you are watching,

“ ‘This will be the sign to you that I will punish you in this place,’ declares the Lord, ‘so that you will know that my threats of harm against you will surely stand.’

This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
