Lord, they came to you in their distress; when you disciplined them, they could barely whisper a prayer.

and call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.”

Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent.

They do not cry out to me from their hearts but wail on their beds. They slash themselves, appealing to their gods for grain and new wine, but they turn away from me.

Arise, cry out in the night, as the watches of the night begin; pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord. Lift up your hands to him for the lives of your children, who faint from hunger at every street corner.

These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go to the house of God under the protection of the Mighty One with shouts of joy and praise among the festive throng.

My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, Lord, I will seek.

I remembered you, God, and I groaned; I meditated, and my spirit grew faint.

Whenever God slew them, they would seek him; they eagerly turned to him again.

Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.
