You have been a refuge for the poor, a refuge for the needy in their distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat. For the breath of the ruthless is like a storm driving against a wall

What answer shall be given to the envoys of that nation? “The Lord has established Zion, and in her his afflicted people will find refuge.”

“Make up your mind,” Moab says. “Render a decision. Make your shadow like night— at high noon. Hide the fugitives, do not betray the refugees.

He will be a spirit of justice to the one who sits in judgment, a source of strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate.

Once more the humble will rejoice in the Lord; the needy will rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

The ruthless will vanish, the mockers will disappear, and all who have an eye for evil will be cut down—

But your many enemies will become like fine dust, the ruthless hordes like blown chaff. Suddenly, in an instant,

Each one will be like a shelter from the wind and a refuge from the storm, like streams of water in the desert and the shadow of a great rock in a thirsty land.

they are the ones who will dwell on the heights, whose refuge will be the mountain fortress. Their bread will be supplied, and water will not fail them.

Lord, be gracious to us; we long for you. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of distress.

When you cry out for help, let your collection of idols save you! The wind will carry all of them off, a mere breath will blow them away. But whoever takes refuge in me will inherit the land and possess my holy mountain.”

Has not my hand made all these things, and so they came into being?” declares the Lord. “These are the ones I look on with favor: those who are humble and contrite in spirit, and who tremble at my word.

He will be a holy place; for both Israel and Judah he will be a stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall. And for the people of Jerusalem he will be a trap and a snare.

Lord, my strength and my fortress, my refuge in time of distress, to you the nations will come from the ends of the earth and say, “Our ancestors possessed nothing but false gods, worthless idols that did them no good.

You and all your troops and the many nations with you will go up, advancing like a storm; you will be like a cloud covering the land.

But I will leave within you the meek and humble. The remnant of Israel will trust in the name of the Lord.

Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him?
