at that time the Lord spoke through Isaiah son of Amoz. He said to him, “Take off the sackcloth from your body and the sandals from your feet.” And he did so, going around stripped and barefoot.

The vision concerning Judah and Jerusalem that Isaiah son of Amoz saw during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.

A prophecy against Babylon that Isaiah son of Amoz saw:

He sent Eliakim the palace administrator, Shebna the secretary, and the leading priests, all wearing sackcloth, to the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz.

Every head is shaved and every beard cut off; every hand is slashed and every waist is covered with sackcloth.

Groan quietly; do not mourn for the dead. Keep your turban fastened and your sandals on your feet; do not cover your mustache and beard or eat the customary food of mourners.”

You will keep your turbans on your heads and your sandals on your feet. You will not mourn or weep but will waste away because of your sins and groan among yourselves.

“Now, son of man, take a block of clay, put it in front of you and draw the city of Jerusalem on it.

I have assigned you the same number of days as the years of their sin. So for 390 days you will bear the sin of the people of Israel.

Pass by naked and in shame, you who live in Shaphir. Those who live in Zaanan will not come out. Beth Ezel is in mourning; it no longer protects you.

Because of this I will weep and wail; I will go about barefoot and naked. I will howl like a jackal and moan like an owl.

The commander of the Lord’s army replied, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.

And I will appoint my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth.”

He stripped off his garments, and he too prophesied in Samuel’s presence. He lay naked all that day and all that night. This is why people say, “Is Saul also among the prophets?”
