How can you repulse one officer of the least of my master’s officials, even though you are depending on Egypt for chariots and horsemen?

“Say to Hezekiah king of Judah: Do not let the god you depend on deceive you when he says, ‘Jerusalem will not be given into the hands of the king of Assyria.’

He may let them rest in a feeling of security, but his eyes are on their ways.

But this is not what he intends, this is not what he has in mind; his purpose is to destroy, to put an end to many nations.

‘Has not Kalno fared like Carchemish? Is not Hamath like Arpad, and Samaria like Damascus?

“ ‘Come now, make a bargain with my master, the king of Assyria: I will give you two thousand horses—if you can put riders on them!

This is what the Lord says: “Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches,

“For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: From the north I am going to bring against Tyre Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, king of kings, with horses and chariots, with horsemen and a great army.

So it towered higher than all the trees of the field; its boughs increased and its branches grew long, spreading because of abundant waters.

Your Majesty, you are the king of kings. The God of heaven has given you dominion and power and might and glory;

Although they have sold themselves among the nations, I will now gather them together. They will begin to waste away under the oppression of the mighty king.
