Hosea 9:9

They have sunk deep into corruption, as in the days of Gibeah. God will remember their wickedness and punish them for their sins.

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go down, because your people, whom you brought up out of Egypt, have become corrupt.

The earth is defiled by its people; they have disobeyed the laws, violated the statutes and broken the everlasting covenant.

Return, you Israelites, to the One you have so greatly revolted against.

This is what the Lord says about this people: “They greatly love to wander; they do not restrain their feet. So the Lord does not accept them; he will now remember their wickedness and punish them for their sins.”

“And you, son of man, prophesy and say, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says about the Ammonites and their insults: “ ‘A sword, a sword, drawn for the slaughter, polished to consume and to flash like lightning!

“Since the days of Gibeah, you have sinned, Israel, and there you have remained. Will not war again overtake the evildoers in Gibeah?

And it will be: Like people, like priests. I will punish both of them for their ways and repay them for their deeds.

“Sound the trumpet in Gibeah, the horn in Ramah. Raise the battle cry in Beth Aven; lead on, Benjamin.

but they do not realize that I remember all their evil deeds. Their sins engulf them; they are always before me.

Though they offer sacrifices as gifts to me, and though they eat the meat, the Lord is not pleased with them. Now he will remember their wickedness and punish their sins: They will return to Egypt.

The prophet, along with my God, is the watchman over Ephraim, yet snares await him on all his paths, and hostility in the house of his God.

Of Jerusalem I thought, ‘Surely you will fear me and accept correction!’ Then her place of refuge would not be destroyed, nor all my punishments come upon her. But they were still eager to act corruptly in all they did.

His master replied, “No. We won’t go into any city whose people are not Israelites. We will go on to Gibeah.”

That evening an old man from the hill country of Ephraim, who was living in Gibeah (the inhabitants of the place were Benjamites), came in from his work in the fields.

While they were enjoying themselves, some of the wicked men of the city surrounded the house. Pounding on the door, they shouted to the old man who owned the house, “Bring out the man who came to your house so we can have sex with him.”

They surrounded the Benjamites, chased them and easily overran them in the vicinity of Gibeah on the east.
