‘This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: I am about to turn against you the weapons of war that are in your hands, which you are using to fight the king of Babylon and the Babylonians who are outside the wall besieging you. And I will gather them inside this city.

therefore I am going to gather all your lovers, with whom you found pleasure, those you loved as well as those you hated. I will gather them against you from all around and will strip you in front of them, and they will see you stark naked.

Then my wrath against you will subside and my jealous anger will turn away from you; I will be calm and no longer angry.

“This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Bring a mob against them and give them over to terror and plunder.

“Therefore I delivered her into the hands of her lovers, the Assyrians, for whom she lusted.

“Then my anger will cease and my wrath against them will subside, and I will be avenged. And when I have spent my wrath on them, they will know that I the Lord have spoken in my zeal.

“Since the days of Gibeah, you have sinned, Israel, and there you have remained. Will not war again overtake the evildoers in Gibeah?

A whirlwind will sweep them away, and their sacrifices will bring them shame.

And it will be: Like people, like priests. I will punish both of them for their ways and repay them for their deeds.

“Put the trumpet to your lips! An eagle is over the house of the Lord because the people have broken my covenant and rebelled against my law.

Although they have sold themselves among the nations, I will now gather them together. They will begin to waste away under the oppression of the mighty king.

The king was enraged. He sent his army and destroyed those murderers and burned their city.

Just as it pleased the Lord to make you prosper and increase in number, so it will please him to ruin and destroy you. You will be uprooted from the land you are entering to possess.
