he said to Nathan the prophet, “Here I am, living in a house of cedar, while the ark of God remains in a tent.”

For everyone looks out for their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ.

“You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why?” declares the Lord Almighty. “Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with your own house.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Therefore because of you, Zion will be plowed like a field, Jerusalem will become a heap of rubble, the temple hill a mound overgrown with thickets.

How the gold has lost its luster, the fine gold become dull! The sacred gems are scattered at every street corner.

The Lord has rejected his altar and abandoned his sanctuary. He has given the walls of her palaces into the hands of the enemy; they have raised a shout in the house of the Lord as on the day of an appointed festival.

“This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘In this place, desolate and without people or animals—in all its towns there will again be pastures for shepherds to rest their flocks.

“This is what the Lord says: ‘You say about this place, “It is a desolate waste, without people or animals.” Yet in the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem that are deserted, inhabited by neither people nor animals, there will be heard once more

“Micah of Moresheth prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah. He told all the people of Judah, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty says: “ ‘Zion will be plowed like a field, Jerusalem will become a heap of rubble, the temple hill a mound overgrown with thickets.’

then I will make this house like Shiloh and this city a curse among all the nations of the earth.’ ”

For her stones are dear to your servants; her very dust moves them to pity.

They burned your sanctuary to the ground; they defiled the dwelling place of your Name.

Say to the people of Israel, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am about to desecrate my sanctuary—the stronghold in which you take pride, the delight of your eyes, the object of your affection. The sons and daughters you left behind will fall by the sword.

He says, ‘I will build myself a great palace with spacious upper rooms.’ So he makes large windows in it, panels it with cedar and decorates it in red.

Then the word of the Lord came through the prophet Haggai:

Now this is what the Lord Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways.

But in the fifth year you may eat its fruit. In this way your harvest will be increased. I am the Lord your God.

But Elisha said to him, “Was not my spirit with you when the man got down from his chariot to meet you? Is this the time to take money or to accept clothes—or olive groves and vineyards, or flocks and herds, or male and female slaves?

a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build,
