But Joseph said to them, “Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God?
Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.
And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you.
Jacob became angry with her and said, “Am I in the place of God, who has kept you from having children?”
For we know him who said, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge his people.”
As soon as the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his robes and said, “Am I God? Can I kill and bring back to life? Why does this fellow send someone to me to be cured of his leprosy? See how he is trying to pick a quarrel with me!”
But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
It is mine to avenge; I will repay. In due time their foot will slip; their day of disaster is near and their doom rushes upon them.”
His brothers then came and threw themselves down before him. “We are your slaves,” they said.
You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.
