Jacob asked the shepherds, “My brothers, where are you from?” “We’re from Harran,” they replied.

Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Harran.

Now then, my son, do what I say: Flee at once to my brother Laban in Harran.

“So he left the land of the Chaldeans and settled in Harran. After the death of his father, God sent him to this land where you are now living.

To this he replied: “Brothers and fathers, listen to me! The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham while he was still in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Harran.

Then the servant left, taking with him ten of his master’s camels loaded with all kinds of good things from his master. He set out for Aram Naharaim and made his way to the town of Nahor.

Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and together they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan. But when they came to Harran, they settled there.

When all the flocks were gathered there, the shepherds would roll the stone away from the well’s mouth and water the sheep. Then they would return the stone to its place over the mouth of the well.
