Ephron the Hittite was sitting among his people and he replied to Abraham in the hearing of all the Hittites who had come to the gate of his city.

“I am a foreigner and stranger among you. Sell me some property for a burial site here so I can bury my dead.”

He said to them, “If you are willing to let me bury my dead, then listen to me and intercede with Ephron son of Zohar on my behalf

David said to him, “Let me have the site of your threshing floor so I can build an altar to the Lord, that the plague on the people may be stopped. Sell it to me at the full price.”

But King David replied to Araunah, “No, I insist on paying the full price. I will not take for the Lord what is yours, or sacrifice a burnt offering that costs me nothing.”

Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone.

Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.
