The angel of the Lord found Hagar near a spring in the desert; it was the spring that is beside the road to Shur.

Now Abraham moved on from there into the region of the Negev and lived between Kadesh and Shur. For a while he stayed in Gerar,

God heard the boy crying, and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her, “What is the matter, Hagar? Do not be afraid; God has heard the boy crying as he lies there.

Lift the boy up and take him by the hand, for I will make him into a great nation.”

Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water. So she went and filled the skin with water and gave the boy a drink.

But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied.

The angel of the Lord called to Abraham from heaven a second time

“The Lord, the God of heaven, who brought me out of my father’s household and my native land and who spoke to me and promised me on oath, saying, ‘To your offspring I will give this land’—he will send his angel before you so that you can get a wife for my son from there.

His descendants settled in the area from Havilah to Shur, near the eastern border of Egypt, as you go toward Ashur. And they lived in hostility toward all the tribes related to them.

The angel of God said to me in the dream, ‘Jacob.’ I answered, ‘Here I am.’

Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea and they went into the Desert of Shur. For three days they traveled in the desert without finding water.

There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up.

The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good.

Then Saul attacked the Amalekites all the way from Havilah to Shur, near the eastern border of Egypt.
