But Elisha said to him, “Was not my spirit with you when the man got down from his chariot to meet you? Is this the time to take money or to accept clothes—or olive groves and vineyards, or flocks and herds, or male and female slaves?

In his distress he sought the favor of the Lord his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his ancestors.

A person finds joy in giving an apt reply— and how good is a timely word!

Put your outdoor work in order and get your fields ready; after that, build your house.

I applied my mind to study and to explore by wisdom all that is done under the heavens. What a heavy burden God has laid on mankind!

So I hated life, because the work that is done under the sun was grievous to me. All of it is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.

I tried cheering myself with wine, and embracing folly—my mind still guiding me with wisdom. I wanted to see what was good for people to do under the heavens during the few days of their lives.

I said to myself, “God will bring into judgment both the righteous and the wicked, for there will be a time for every activity, a time to judge every deed.”

When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider this: God has made the one as well as the other. Therefore, no one can discover anything about their future.

There they will exclaim, ‘Pharaoh king of Egypt is only a loud noise; he has missed his opportunity.’

and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.
