“See, I will send venomous snakes among you, vipers that cannot be charmed, and they will bite you,” declares the Lord.

The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

They sharpen their tongues like swords and aim cruel words like deadly arrows.

You who practice deceit, your tongue plots destruction; it is like a sharpened razor.

but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

If the ax is dull and its edge unsharpened, more strength is needed, but skill will bring success.

Break the teeth in their mouths, O God; Lord, tear out the fangs of those lions!
