Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.

Terrified at her torment, they will stand far off and cry: “ ‘Woe! Woe to you, great city, you mighty city of Babylon! In one hour your doom has come!’

The name written on her forehead was a mystery: babylon the great the mother of prostitutes and of the abominations of the earth.

For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”

They scoff, and speak with malice; with arrogance they threaten oppression.

People who have wealth but lack understanding are like the beasts that perish.

Then a mighty angel picked up a boulder the size of a large millstone and threw it into the sea, and said: “With such violence the great city of Babylon will be thrown down, never to be found again.

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

Praise the Lord, my soul. Lord my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty.

For a full 180 days he displayed the vast wealth of his kingdom and the splendor and glory of his majesty.

The first centers of his kingdom were Babylon, Uruk, Akkad and Kalneh, in Shinar.

A second angel followed and said, “ ‘Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great,’ which made all the nations drink the maddening wine of her adulteries.”

Pride brings a person low, but the lowly in spirit gain honor.

Babylon, the jewel of kingdoms, the pride and glory of the Babylonians, will be overthrown by God like Sodom and Gomorrah.

Even as the words were on his lips, a voice came from heaven, “This is what is decreed for you, King Nebuchadnezzar: Your royal authority has been taken from you.

Then they sweep past like the wind and go on— guilty people, whose own strength is their god.”

When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.

If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, ‘Give this person your seat.’ Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place.
