When Moses went and told the people all the Lord’s words and laws, they responded with one voice, “Everything the Lord has said we will do.”

“Shout it aloud, do not hold back. Raise your voice like a trumpet. Declare to my people their rebellion and to the descendants of Jacob their sins.

“This is what the Lord says: Stand in the courtyard of the Lord’s house and speak to all the people of the towns of Judah who come to worship in the house of the Lord. Tell them everything I command you; do not omit a word.

From the room of Gemariah son of Shaphan the secretary, which was in the upper courtyard at the entrance of the New Gate of the temple, Baruch read to all the people at the Lord’s temple the words of Jeremiah from the scroll.

“Stand at the gate of the Lord’s house and there proclaim this message: “ ‘Hear the word of the Lord, all you people of Judah who come through these gates to worship the Lord.

“Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me.

What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs.

Jesus entered the temple courts, and, while he was teaching, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him. “By what authority are you doing these things?” they asked. “And who gave you this authority?”

I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say.”

Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me.

“I have spoken openly to the world,” Jesus replied. “I always taught in synagogues or at the temple, where all the Jews come together. I said nothing in secret.

The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life.

Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.

He will bring you a message through which you and all your household will be saved.’

“Fellow children of Abraham and you God-fearing Gentiles, it is to us that this message of salvation has been sent.
