know that a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified.

Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.

For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh,

(for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God.

For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,

because the law brings wrath. And where there is no law there is no transgression.

Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God.

The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more,

Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!

For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.

It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.

All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”

Do not bring your servant into judgment, for no one living is righteous before you.

How then can a mortal be righteous before God? How can one born of woman be pure?

Even if I were innocent, my mouth would condemn me; if I were blameless, it would pronounce me guilty.

Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law.

Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.”

“For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God.

And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

but the people of Israel, who pursued the law as the way of righteousness, have not attained their goal.

“Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.

“I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

“You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”

On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

“See, the enemy is puffed up; his desires are not upright— but the righteous person will live by his faithfulness—

It will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to them,” declares the Lord.

After he has suffered, he will see the light of life and be satisfied; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities.

Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin.
