He said to them: “You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with or visit a Gentile. But God has shown me that I should not call anyone impure or unclean.

For before certain men came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles. But when they arrived, he began to draw back and separate himself from the Gentiles because he was afraid of those who belonged to the circumcision group.

But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”

If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take them into your house or welcome them.

But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people.

So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days.

Then Peter invited the men into the house to be his guests. The next day Peter started out with them, and some of the believers from Joppa went along.

When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

Then the Jewish leaders took Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman governor. By now it was early morning, and to avoid ceremonial uncleanness they did not enter the palace, because they wanted to be able to eat the Passover.

Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter. He is a guest in the home of Simon the tanner, who lives by the sea.’
