He talked and debated with the Hellenistic Jews, but they tried to kill him.

But in the church I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue.

By the humility and gentleness of Christ, I appeal to you—I, Paul, who am “timid” when face to face with you, but “bold” toward you when away!

And if what was transitory came with glory, how much greater is the glory of that which lasts!

It is written: “I believed; therefore I have spoken.” Since we have that same spirit of faith, we also believe and therefore speak,

I have spoken to you with great frankness; I take great pride in you. I am greatly encouraged; in all our troubles my joy knows no bounds.

And because of my chains, most of the brothers and sisters have become confident in the Lord and dare all the more to proclaim the gospel without fear.

I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.

Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.

We had previously suffered and been treated outrageously in Philippi, as you know, but with the help of our God we dared to tell you his gospel in the face of strong opposition.

Those who have served well gain an excellent standing and great assurance in their faith in Christ Jesus.

Therefore, although in Christ I could be bold and order you to do what you ought to do,
