After the death of Saul, David returned from striking down the Amalekites and stayed in Ziklag two days.

At dusk they got up and went to the camp of the Arameans. When they reached the edge of the camp, no one was there,

They killed the remaining Amalekites who had escaped, and they have lived there to this day.

I beat them as fine as windblown dust; I trampled them like mud in the streets.

But Ishmael son of Nethaniah and eight of his men escaped from Johanan and fled to the Ammonites.

Barak pursued the chariots and army as far as Harosheth Haggoyim, and all Sisera’s troops fell by the sword; not a man was left.

The Midianites, the Amalekites and all the other eastern peoples had settled in the valley, thick as locusts. Their camels could no more be counted than the sand on the seashore.

The next day Saul separated his men into three divisions; during the last watch of the night they broke into the camp of the Ammonites and slaughtered them until the heat of the day. Those who survived were scattered, so that no two of them were left together.

Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.’ ”
