Abishai son of Zeruiah struck down eighteen thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt.

He put the rest of the men under the command of Abishai his brother and deployed them against the Ammonites.

When the Ammonites realized that the Arameans were fleeing, they fled before Abishai and went inside the city. So Joab returned from fighting the Ammonites and came to Jerusalem.

David said to Abishai, “Now Sheba son of Bikri will do us more harm than Absalom did. Take your master’s men and pursue him, or he will find fortified cities and escape from us.”

But Abishai son of Zeruiah came to David’s rescue; he struck the Philistine down and killed him. Then David’s men swore to him, saying, “Never again will you go out with us to battle, so that the lamp of Israel will not be extinguished.”

King David dedicated these articles to the Lord, as he had done with the silver and gold he had taken from all these nations: Edom and Moab, the Ammonites and the Philistines, and Amalek.

He put garrisons in Edom, and all the Edomites became subject to David. The Lord gave David victory wherever he went.

He put the rest of the men under the command of Abishai his brother, and they were deployed against the Ammonites.

Their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. Zeruiah’s three sons were Abishai, Joab and Asahel.

Amaziah then marshaled his strength and led his army to the Valley of Salt, where he killed ten thousand men of Seir.

You have rejected us, God, and burst upon us; you have been angry—now restore us!

David then asked Ahimelek the Hittite and Abishai son of Zeruiah, Joab’s brother, “Who will go down into the camp with me to Saul?” “I’ll go with you,” said Abishai.

Abishai said to David, “Today God has delivered your enemy into your hands. Now let me pin him to the ground with one thrust of the spear; I won’t strike him twice.”
