You think you know so much more than the people you teach. You think you’re helping blind people. You think you are a light for those in the dark.

Do you see a person who is wise in their own eyes? There is more hope for a foolish person than for them.

Here is what the Lord says to me. “It is not enough for you as my servant to bring the tribes of Jacob back to their land. It is not enough for you to bring back the people of Israel I have kept alive. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles. Then you will make it possible for the whole world to be saved.”

How terrible it will be for those who think they are wise! How terrible for those who think they are really clever!

Israel’s prophets are blind. They don’t know the Lord. All of them are like watchdogs that can’t even bark. They just lie around and dream. They love to sleep.

Leave the Pharisees. They are blind guides. If one blind person leads another blind person, both of them will fall into a pit.”

The people who are now living in darkness have seen a great light. They are now living in a very dark land. But a light has shined on them.” (Isaiah 9:1,2)

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill can’t be hidden.

But suppose your eyes can’t see well. Then your whole body will be full of darkness. If the light inside you is darkness, then it is very dark!

What I’m about to tell you is true. Anyone who will not receive God’s kingdom like a little child will never enter it.”

It will shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death. It will guide our feet on the path of peace.”

Then the Pharisees replied, “When you were born, you were already deep in sin. How dare you talk like that to us!” And they threw him out of the synagogue.

to open their eyes. I want you to turn them from darkness to light. I want you to turn them from Satan’s power to God. I want their sins to be forgiven. They will be forgiven when they believe in me. They will have their place among God’s people.’

You know what God wants. You agree with what is best because the law teaches you.

You think you can make foolish people wise. You act like you’re teaching little children. You think that the law gives you all knowledge and truth.

Don’t fool yourselves. Suppose some of you think you are wise by the standards of the world. Then you should become “fools” so that you can become wise.

We are fools for Christ. But you are so wise in Christ! We are weak. But you are so strong! You are honored. But we are looked down on!

Then you will be pure and without blame. You will be children of God without fault among sinful and evil people. Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky.
