The voice spoke to the sixth angel who had the trumpet. The voice said, “Set the four angels free who are held at the great river Euphrates.”

On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram. He said, “I am giving this land to your family who comes after you. It reaches from the River of Egypt to the great Euphrates River.

The name of the third river is the Tigris. It runs along the east side of Ashur. And the fourth river is called the Euphrates.

David fought against Hadadezer, the son of Rehob. Hadadezer was king of Zobah. He had gone to repair his monument at the Euphrates River.

Finish reading the scroll. Tie a stone to it. Throw it into the Euphrates River.

Take your tents down. Go into the hill country of the Amorites. Go to all the people who are their neighbors. Go to the people who live in the Arabah Valley. Travel to the mountains and the western hills. Go to the people in the Negev Desert and along the coast. Travel to the land of Canaan and to Lebanon. Go as far as the great Euphrates River.

Your territory will reach from the Negev Desert all the way to Lebanon. The great Euphrates River will be to the east. The Mediterranean Sea will be to the west. Your territory will include all the Hittite country.

The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates. Its water dried up to prepare the way for the kings from the East.

After this I saw four angels. They were standing at the four corners of the earth. They were holding back the four winds of the earth. This kept the winds from blowing on the land or the sea or on any tree.

Then I saw another angel coming up from the east. He brought the official seal of the living God. He called out in a loud voice to the four angels. They had been allowed to harm the land and the sea.

I saw the seven angels who stand in front of God. Seven trumpets were given to them.

Then the seven angels who had the seven trumpets got ready to blow them.

The four angels had been ready for this very hour and day and month and year. They were set free to kill a third of all people.
