Then I saw a scroll in the right hand of the one sitting on the throne. The scroll had writing on both sides. It was sealed with seven seals.

For you, this whole vision is like words that are sealed up in a scroll. Suppose you give it to someone who can read. And suppose you say, “Please read this for us.” Then they’ll answer, “I can’t. It’s sealed up.”

Look in the book of the Lord. Here is what you will read there. None of those animals will be missing. Male and female alike will be there. The Lord himself has commanded it. And his Spirit will gather them together.

Tie up and seal this warning that the Lord said to you through me. Preserve among my followers what he taught you through me.

“The vision of the evenings and mornings that has been given to you is true. But seal up the vision. It is about a time far off.”

I looked up again and saw a flying scroll.

He was holding a little scroll. It was lying open in his hand. The angel put his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land.

The one who sat there shone like jasper and ruby. Around the throne was a rainbow shining like an emerald.

The living creatures give glory, honor and thanks to the one who sits on the throne. He lives for ever and ever.

All creatures in heaven, on earth, under the earth, and on the sea were speaking. The whole creation was speaking. I heard all of them say, “Praise and honor belong to the one who sits on the throne and to the Lamb! Glory and power belong to God for ever and ever!”

The Lamb went and took the scroll. He took it from the right hand of the one sitting on the throne.

I watched as the Lamb broke open the first of the seven seals. Then I heard one of the four living creatures say in a voice that sounded like thunder, “Come!”

They called out to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us! Hide us from the face of the one who sits on the throne! Hide us from the anger of the Lamb!

The Lamb opened the seventh seal. Then there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.
