In the desert they longed for food. In that dry and empty land they tested God.

They were stubborn and tested God. They ordered him to give them the food they wanted.

So the place was named Kibroth Hattaavah. That’s where the bodies of the people who had wished for other food were buried.

Some people with them began to wish for other food. Again the Israelites began to cry out. They said, “We wish we had meat to eat.

If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No. People who wear fine clothes are in kings’ palaces.

“But God said to him, ‘You foolish man! Tonight I will take your life away from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’

“But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember what happened in your lifetime. You received your good things. Lazarus received bad things. Now he is comforted here, and you are in terrible pain.

Now those things happened as examples for us. They are supposed to keep us from wanting evil things. The people of Israel wanted these evil things.

You want something, but you don’t have it. So you kill. You want what others have, but you can’t get what you want. So you argue and fight. You don’t have what you want, because you don’t ask God.

Cinnamon, spice, incense, myrrh, frankincense. Wine, olive oil, fine flour, wheat. Cattle, sheep, horses, carriages, and human beings sold as slaves.

The traders who sold these things became rich because of Babylon. When she suffers, they will stand far away. Her suffering will terrify them. They will weep and mourn.
