My face is red from crying. I have dark circles under my eyes.

My eyes grow tired as I look to you to save me. Please save me as you have promised.

My eyes grow tired looking for what you have promised. I say, “When will you comfort me?”

My mouth is dried up like a piece of broken pottery. My tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth. You bring me down to the edge of the grave.

My God, I cry out in the daytime. But you don’t answer. I cry out at night. But you don’t let me sleep.

May my honest and good life keep me safe. Lord, I have put my hope in you.

“Lord, what can I look forward to now? You are the only hope I have.

He gave me a new song to sing. It is a hymn of praise to our God. Many people will see and have respect for the Lord. They will put their trust in him.

My groaning has worn me out. All night long my tears flood my bed. My bed is wet because of my crying.

They put bitter spices in my food. They gave me vinegar when I was thirsty.

Your great anger lies heavy on me. All the waves of your anger have crashed over me.

I cried softly like a weak little bird. I sounded like a dove as I mourned. My eyes grew tired as I looked up toward heaven. Lord, my life is in danger. Please come and help me!

I’ve cried so much I can’t see very well. I’m suffering deep down inside. My heart is broken because my people are destroyed. Children and babies are fainting in the streets of the city.

Later, Jesus knew that everything had now been finished. He also knew that what Scripture said must come true. So he said, “I am thirsty.”

Your children will be given to another nation. Day after day you will watch for them to come back. But you will only wear out your eyes. You won’t be able to help your children.

Jesus prayed while he lived on earth. He made his appeal with sincere cries and tears. He prayed to the God who could save him from death. God answered Jesus because he truly honored God.
