My enemies are saying bad things about me. They say, “When will he die and his name be forgotten?”

No one on earth remembers them. Their names are forgotten in the land.

But they will disappear forever, like the waste from their own bodies. Anyone who has seen them will say, ‘Where did they go?’

All day long my enemies laugh at me. Those who make fun of me use my name as a curse.

Those who are trying to kill me set their traps. Those who want to harm me talk about destroying me. All day long they make their plans and tell their lies.

I know the lawless acts I’ve committed. I can’t forget my sin.

I know that you wanted faithfulness even when I was in my mother’s body. You taught me wisdom in that secret place.

My enemies chase me all day long. Many proud people are attacking me.

I cry out to God Most High. I cry out to God, and he shows that I am right.

Then your ways will be known on earth. All nations will see that you have the power to save.

Come to my aid and have mercy on me. Show your strength by helping me. Save me because I serve you just as my mother did.

Lord, have mercy on me. I call out to you all day long.

The names of those who do right are used in blessings. But the names of those who do wrong will rot.
