Psalm 37:20

But sinful people will die. The Lord’s enemies may be like flowers in the field. But they will be swallowed up. They will disappear like smoke.

He looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah and the whole valley. He saw thick smoke rising from the land. It looked like smoke from a furnace.

My days are disappearing like smoke. My body burns like glowing coals.

May you, God, blow them away like smoke. As fire melts wax, so may God destroy sinful people.

But may those who do what is right be glad and filled with joy when they are with him. May they be happy and joyful.

Lord, your enemies will certainly die. All those who do evil will be scattered.

But sinners will be cut off from the land. Those who aren’t faithful will be torn away from it.

Then the priest must burn the offering on the altar as food. It is a food offering. It has a pleasant smell. All the fat belongs to the Lord.

The Lord will never be willing to forgive those people. His great anger will blaze out against them. All the curses I’ve written down in this book will fall on them. And the Lord will erase any mention of them from the earth.

Our “God is like a fire that burns everything up.” (Deuteronomy 4:24)

These people speak evil about things they don’t understand. They are like wild animals who can’t think. Instead, they do what comes naturally to them. They are born only to be caught and destroyed. Just like animals, these people too will die.

“Lord, may all your enemies be destroyed. But may all who love you be like the morning sun. May they be like the sun when it shines the brightest.” So the land was at peace for 40 years.
