What has happened to them shocks the people in the west. It terrifies the people in the east.

The God who sits on his throne in heaven laughs. The Lord makes fun of those rulers and their plans.

So I will laugh at you when you are in danger. I will make fun of you when hard times come.

The Lord who rules over all has set apart a day when he will judge. He has set it apart for all those who are proud and think they are important. He has set it apart for all those who brag about themselves. All of them will be brought low.

Kill all Babylon’s strongest warriors. Let them die in battle. How terrible it will be for them! Their time to be judged has come. Now they will be punished.

King Zedekiah, your day has come. You are an unholy and evil prince in Israel. The day for you to be punished is here.

The visions of your prophets are false. They use magic to try to find out what is going to happen to you. But their magic tricks are lies. The sword will strike the necks of you sinful people. You will be killed. The day for you to be punished has finally come. Your time is up.

“And here is what these words mean. “The word Mene means that God has limited the time of your rule. He has brought it to an end.

You can be sure that the Lord lives,” he said. “And you can be just as sure that the Lord himself will strike Saul down. Perhaps he’ll die a natural death. Or perhaps he’ll go into battle and be killed.
