Godly people cry out, and the Lord hears them. He saves them from all their troubles.

In those days Hezekiah became sick. He knew he was about to die. So he prayed to the Lord. And the Lord answered him. He gave him a miraculous sign.

“I’m sure God doesn’t turn his back on anyone who is honest. And he doesn’t help those who do what is evil.

May the Lord never forget their sins. Then he won’t let people remember the names of my enemies anymore.

The Lord looks with favor on those who are godly. His ears are open to their cry.

The person who does what is right may have many troubles. But the Lord saves him from all of them.

This poor man called out, and the Lord heard him. He saved him out of all his troubles.

Because of your great love I can come into your house. With deep respect I bow down toward your holy temple.

My enemies have been destroyed forever. You have leveled their cities to the ground. Even the memory of them is gone.

He will call out to me, and I will answer him. I will be with him in times of trouble. I will save him and honor him.

The names of those who do right are used in blessings. But the names of those who do wrong will rot.

Even before they call out to me, I will answer them. While they are still speaking, I will hear them.

I will turn against them. I will make an example out of them. People will talk about the bad things that happen to them. I will remove them from you. Then you will know that I am the Lord.

Their enemies might take them away as prisoners to another country. But there I will command Israel’s enemies to cut them down with swords. I will keep my eye on Israel to harm them. I will not help them.”

I said I would scatter them. I said I would erase their name from human memory.
