My eyes stay open all night long. I spend my time thinking about your promises.

I’m filled with joy because of your promise. It’s like finding a great fortune.

I’m a stranger on earth. Don’t hide your commands from me.

I am quick to follow your commands, because you have added to my understanding.

It was good for me to suffer. That’s what helped me to understand your orders.

Save me, because I belong to you. I’ve tried to obey your rules.

A person who isn’t friendly looks out only for themselves. They oppose all good sense by starting fights.

When you walk, nothing will slow you down. When you run, you won’t trip and fall.

I decided to study things carefully. I used my wisdom to check everything out. I looked into everything that is done on earth. What a heavy load God has put on human beings!

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me. He has anointed me to announce the good news to poor people. He has sent me to announce freedom for prisoners. He has sent me so that the blind will see again. He wants me to set free those who are treated badly.

You study the Scriptures carefully. You study them because you think they will give you eternal life. The Scriptures you study are a witness about me.

So don’t be foolish. Instead, understand what the Lord wants.

But suppose someone takes a good look at the perfect law that gives freedom. And they keep looking at it. Suppose they don’t forget what they’ve heard, but they do what the law says. Then this person will be blessed in what they do.

Speak and act like people who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom.

They promise to give freedom to these new believers. But they themselves are slaves to sinful living. That’s because “people are slaves to anything that controls them.”
